Hi, I’m Valerie Lynn, THE MOMMY PLANNER, Author of THE MOMMY PLAN.

New Motherhood expert for new moms mothers whose lifestyle demands that they have a fast and strong recovery, without sacrificing the incredible experience of deep-healing and intimate bonding this sacred time embodies. Through a blend of the most effective eastern and western postpartum recovery practices I guide mothers through their physical and hormonal recovery cutting their healing time in half allowing them to be fully present to meet the needs of their newborn and resume their way of life.

I spent 20 years abroad, working as a business consultant is Europe and Asia- Japan, U.K., Indonesia, Australia and Malaysia. It was during this time that I discovered, in my own life and those of many people I’ve cared for, how women struggle with various post-pregnancy symptoms.

My Own Postpartum Anxiety & OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

It was while I was the Executive Director of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia, 4-months after I gave birth to my son, that I began to experience troubling postpartum feelings.  After a year of coping with such emotions I self-diagnosed my own mental health situation as postpartum anxiety and OCD.  I then turned to traditional feminine health to heal and re-balance my post-baby body and it changed my life and began my deep interest  in Malay post-post-pregnancy recovery traditional practices.

Lowest Rate of Postpartum Depression in the world

I soon discovered that Malaysia has the lowest rates of postpartum depression in the world  at 2.9%.  I conducted original research via the Ministry of Health, Traditional Complementary Medicine Department of the Malaysian government. I also went into the field and interviewed ‘bidans ‘or working traditional practitioners, as well as schools and hospitals. The care that is provided to new mothers who give birth, focusing on the first 44-days, is unmatched in any country that I’ve come across. The detail and preciseness of by which day the healing practices may start fascinated me. I dove deeper and deeper until I understood the dietary recommendations, personal care and activities that new mothers should and shouldn’t engage in.

Food is used as medicine to heal a new mothers body in the most efficient way I’ve ever witnessed and recuperation programs provide healing meals that provide a mama with the post-baby nutrition her depleted body needed after pregnancy and childbirth. It was all laid out neatly and precisely. I was fascinated at the results. How fast the mothers bounced back and how fantastic they looked!

We had nothing like this is western countries. With the fast-paced lifestyles and lack of family support that our new moms needed to have such programs and options to support and speed their recovery.  That is what I embarked upon – to spread the word about exactly what a new mother needs to heal herself so she can take better care of her newborn and return to her daily life after a recuperation period that lasted up to the 6-week medical check.

The first 6-weeks

The first six-weeks after childbirth are the optimum time for a new mother to take advantage of this relative, downtime to heal herself side-by-side with taking care of her newborn.  It is a popular belief that a new mom cannot do anything to help herself heal until after her 6-week medical check. That is furthest from the truth. There are definite steps a mom could do in the first six-weeks that puts her on a path to a strong, health recovery over the next six-months cutting recovery time in half!

Valerie Lynn is one of the leading New Motherhood Recovery Experts in the United States.

Valerie, known as The Mommy Planner, has been a major force in introducing and modernizing traditional after birth recovery practices, more specifically the Malay traditions, and treatments to women globally. Through her own 15-month experience of postpartum anxiety and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) after the birth of her son in 2007, Valerie turned to traditional feminine healthcare to re-balance her post-baby hormones and heal herself naturally through herbs, feminine-focused massage and an enriching diet.

Valerie benefited, first-hand, from Eastern medical practices first had while living in Asia for over 16 years and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for 12 years. She researched, wrote and published her first book, The Mommy Plan, in Malaysia by way of the Malaysian Ministry of Health, Traditional Complementary Medicine department. Valerie conducted interviews in hospitals and in the field. Malaysia is leading the world in after birth care as it’s Maternal Health Care policy provides each new mother (who chooses to give birth in a public hospital) 6-free, 2-hour body massage, treatments and abdominal wrappings. The result is Malaysia has one of the lowest rates of postpartum depression in the world at just 3.9%. The Mommy Plan is endorsed by several leading childbirth educational organizations in the U.S. and internationally.

Valerie’s subsequent cookbook-in-development, The Mommy Plan Recipe Book: Healing Meals: Simple Recipes for New Moms, are recipes based on the postnatal nutritional guidelines in her first book. Recipes from this book are part of her Traditional Postpartum Practitioner course. A training course on the modernization of traditional postnatal recovery practices which covers a change in dietary needs, body therapy, treatments that assists a new mother’s body to recover in a stronger, faster and more balanced manner.

Valerie has held positions such as Executive Director of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Principal of VLM Consultancy where she was provided strategic consultancy services for foreign companies entering the Malaysian and APEC markets.

Valerie serves on many organizations. She is part of the Board of Directors of the distinguished Malaysian NGO YASNITA, “Women’s Pathway to Success” where she serves as an International Advisor on Postpartum Recovery Practices. She is International Country (PSI) Volunteer Co-coordinator for Malaysia of Postpartum Support International, a global organization in 138 countries. She is a Board Member of the International Maternity Institute and the After Birth Project in the U.S. Valerie regularly contributes to articles, books, training programs. She aspires to improve the healing-care of new mothers in the United States and globally which, she believes, will reduce the high rates of postpartum depression. She is an approved speaker for Johnson & Johnson. Valerie resided.  abroad for over 20 years with 16 years in Asia. She has lived in Japan, UK, Indonesia, Australia and Malaysia. Currently Valerie resides in Brooklyn, New York and regularly travels to Malaysia, Southeast Asia and Australia.




FACT: A new mother is nutritionally depleted after almost 10-months of pregnancy and then childbirth. Pregnancy and birth IS a magical time for new mothers.
