The New Mommy Plan Workshop

Preparing for and Navigating the Fourth Trimester

You’ve heard all about the fourth trimester and that is it an important time, but unsure of why or exactly what to do to help yourself heal? Then this is the workshop for you and your partner.

Postnatal recovery carried out correctly takes the physical strain off the body, allowing for a better hormonal re-balancing, breast milk production, and release of retained water, fat, and air by the body.

Why do I need this workshop?

A birthing body heals naturally. However, because postnatal recovery is overlooked in western countries it is not understood. For this reason, new moms are disrupting the healing process just by their lifestyle, resulting in low breast milk supply, low energy levels, and unbalanced hormonal re-balancing.

Deepest postnatal heritage

What is common in Eastern cultures is not common in western cultures. We need to look to cultures that make a postnatal recovery a priority, as I did. I reverse-engineered a postnatal protocol from Southeast Asia, which is the global benchmark when it comes to after-birth recovery.

Topics covered:

  • The condition of a women’s body after childbirth.
  • The natural transition back to a non-pregnant state can be interrupted.
  • Do you really understand your pregnant body?

Book Reviews

The Mommy Plan is an important, information-filled book, focused on helping Western women and their families adapt traditional postpartum practices into their own postpartum care. It is also an easily-digestible read.  Lynn’s book provides the reader with a plan to help prepare a new mother and her family for optimum postpartum recovery. Although no exact cause has been found as a link to all perinatal mood disorders, factors such as hormone imbalances, lack of sleep, previous mental health issues, and inadequate social support are known to predispose some women. Lynn’s book is not meant to make the case that The Mommy Plan will either fully protect against or eradicate a postpartum mood disorder. However, by addressing some of the factors that may play a role in postpartum mood disorders, Lynn offers age-old guidance on how to best set a new mother and her family up for peak postpartum healing, with the hope that this will lessen the likelihood of serious physical or emotional issues occurring.

Journal of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health

“What Valerie Lynn has created within these pages is more than just a plan – it is a philosophy of care and attention that focuses on the needs of the mother so that her new child will be welcomed into an environment where the mother is calm, rested and supported. Valerie outlines in exquisite detail the way these ideas can be applied to modern day households. No vague generalities in this book – there is almost a prescriptive quality to the suggestions, recommendations and recipes that Lynn provides. During pregnancy is the optimal time for a woman to read this book so that this mother-to-be, her husband and her family can learn how to develop a consciousness of the new mother’s needs before they manifest themselves in unhealthy ways.”

Midwifery Today

“The Mommy Plan by Valerie Lynn is a wonderfully nurturing and informative resource for women and their caregivers. Creating a bridge between the worlds of traditional wisdom and modern research, Valerie Lynn writes in a way that is expert, loving, and familiar. From start to finish, this lovely collection of expert guidance and time-tested wisdom is warm and practical. I felt informed and comforted by this treasure from the start – The Mommy Plan covers just what we need to know of both the traditional methods and modern examples of a truly healthy and holistic care plan for pregnant, postpartum, and post pregnancy-loss women. With this holistic and traditional approach, the book covers both emotional and physical well-being. It has become all too rare to find resources for childbearing families that cover both emotional and physical health. After reading The Mommy Plan, I realized that is the very message and gift of this book: in a modern world in which we have forgotten how to take care of the whole person, the whole mama.”
